Welcome to the Swinnow Primary School website.

Geography

In geography at Swinnow, we aim to inspire in children a lasting curiosity and fascination about the world and it’s people.

Children will gain knowledge about a diversity of places, people, natural resources and environments. They will secure an understanding of the Earth’s key physical processes and of the formation of landscapes and environments. They will come to know how humans impact on the Earth, and how the natural environment impacts on the ways that people live. Children will develop an understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes. Children will be able to explain how the Earth’s features on both large and small scales, are shaped, interconnected and change over time.

Children will develop an awareness of and respect for people of other countries and the way that they live.

Children will learn all about the area where we live. They will know about and recognise local landmarks, describe where places are and talk about the different locations and environments that we see when we are out and about near home and school.

Children will use a wide range of methods and resources to develop their geographical knowledge. They will use maps, images, data and real-life experiences of fieldwork to understand, compare, contrast and explain different aspects of geography.
