Outreach

As an AIP, we understand that outreach services need to be flexible to the needs of the individual schools. We need to adapt to the ever-changing primary school landscape. As a result, we regularly review the offer that we give schools in the area, aiming to provide the most effective service possible.

One of the offers that we can provide as a Primary AIP is training aimed at upskilling staff in schools around a number of areas. This can be:

Whole school CPD

This has been popular with schools who want a whole school approach to SEMH and behaviour. Our skilled staff deliver training around the vast area of SEMH and the challenges that can bring. The aim of these CPD sessions is to bring consistency of practice across school and to give staff confidence when dealing with challenging situations. The training sessions can be done on school training days, during staff meetings or in twilight sessions.

School Feedback:

"To prepare for reintegration back to school for a child attending OASIS, James attended school to provide some training for all staff. The training centered around positive relationships being key in helping to improve behaviour and there were some important messages as well as hints, tips and tricks which could be tried. The training was applicable to supporting all children in school who may be struggling with their behaviour and helped staff to think about the child as a whole and what they may have to deal with outside of school.
James covered the following topics: self esteem, control, low level disruption, hunger and swearing.
James shared strategies that he has used, some which work, some which don't,  with real examples using humour . He is easy to listen to; is honest and straightforward. His training helped staff to understand that consistency is really important, that we won't always get it right but to keep being resilient and patient.
I would recommend this training, the feedback from all staff was very positive."

Targeted staff CPD

This CPD can be used to target specific areas of school where there are SEMH challenges. It can also be used to support less experienced staff develop their skills and understanding to support pupils more effectively. This can increase consistency of practice across school and give a more holistic approach to the way SEMH is managed.

Observations

If schools are facing challenged with certain children or year groups, lesson observations can be carried out by our skilled staff. This supportive process gives the opportunity for a different perspective of the classroom environment or practice taking place. Tips, ideas and potential strategies can then presented to staff to try and put into place.

Support and Advice

We have staff who are experienced with SEMH across a range of different age groups. This means we can offer schools support and guidance wherever the challenges are occurring. It can be done in team meetings after school, or at a time to suit through the day. A support plan will be produced and also followed up on to check success levels.

School Feedback:
"Lisa came in to coach colleagues in situ in a class with three high needs SEMH pupils. Colleagues also visited the setting in this piece of work to see Lisa in action.
Colleagues responded to her coaching because of her calm, understanding manner and clear instructions.
She also emotionally coached and supported the teachers at a tough time.
Moving forward, one of the class teachers was empowered to promote change, not only in class, but across school. It has influenced universal, as well as targeted provisions and led to changes in our behaviour policy!"
